AUDITION TIPS for "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum":1 - Relax! Everyone auditioning will be nervous. Do your best, but remember that we are not looking for technical perfection, we are looking for that "spark" of fun.2 - Call Backs: We may have "callbacks"...the time and location for these will be determined soon after the auditions are complete. Please do not assume that a callback guarantees you a spot in the show. Also, if you are not called back, don't assume that you were not cast...you may have already been cast. The lead roles are likely to require a callback so we can see the actors in combination. There will likely be several actors called back for each role. 3 - We would love to be able to cast all who apply, but unfortunately this is not possible. If you do not get a role, please understand that there are times when we simply did not have a "slot" that fits you. If you are not cast, we would love for you to audition at one of our later productions. 4 - Conflicts: Our rehearsals dates will be announced at the auditions. If you have a permanent conflict on the days of our rehearsals, we would prefer that you do not audition. Availability is a deciding factor in deciding who is cast, and (especially) who receive lead roles. The Final week of the production is MANDATORY for all cast members. 5 - Leads: The leads will be chosen based on ability and commitment. We will be looking for singing ability, speaking projection and clarity, vocal expression, as well as a natural "match" with the director's vision of the character. Sometimes a good singer/actor will not be chosen for a lead role solely due to a difference with the director's vision of the show. This is not a reflection of the quality of the auditioner. Also, if you cannot commit to the full schedule of rehearsals, do not expect to be cast in a lead role. We may require a short interview with the directors to confirm your schedule and commitment before being cast. 6 - Corps Roles: If you were hoping for a lead role, but do not get one, remember that there may be opportunities for small "bits" during the big numbers, where we will feature individuals and small groups in dancing or action. We like everyone to get an opportunity to shine, and you will get your chance. We need you to approach your role exactly as you would a lead (with the exception that you will not be required to spend as many hours in home study!) Please approach your role with enthusiasm! You will learn more this way, and it will be more likely that you receive a larger role next time. 7 - Dance: Several roles in this show require dancing ability (specifically, the "courtesans".) For the other roles you do not have to be a dancer or have dance experience to be cast in this show, even for the leads. You will be expected to attend rehearsals well fed, rested, and ready to dance. 8 - All cast members: All performers who are cast will sign a contract in order to perform. The contract will spell out the "laws of the land" for our show. These will be finalized and handed out at our first rehearsal. 9 - Most important...have fun at the audition! |
